A chat with Dan Sone about challenges, AI and the benefits of sailing

Get an insight into our work at Anchor Management Consulting - today we get to know Dan Sone.

What made you start working in management consulting and at Anchor Management Consulting?

I like how Anchor works as a team and utilizes each other's knowledge. In addition, Anchor invests a lot in methods and structural capital for being such a small company, which I see as a great strength compared to other larger companies I have worked for. As a consultant, the customers and assignments are central - we manage to attract exciting companies with strong personalities that are challenging and fun to work with. Last but not least, there are very smart and nice people at Anchor - we have fun when we work and everyone happily shares knowledge and experience.

Can you tell us about a project you are particularly proud of and why?

One of the most challenging assignments was at the beginning of the pandemic. We had started a project to make an IT organization more business-oriented when the pandemic broke out. We had planned a long series of workshops and had to invent new digital ways of working along the way, which actually solved many old problems. Everyone in the project learned a lot in a very short time and we had to re-evaluate many old truths. It made the organization both tighter and more efficient when they felt that we did it together.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced in a project and how did you overcome it?

There are several times that I have ended up in situations that I have not been 100% comfortable in, it has been about both competence and experience. Then I'm usually honest and say that I need to get help from a colleague who is an expert in the field. It is appreciated and gives both me and the customer security and a better result.

How do you see the future of management consulting and what trends do you think will most affect the industry?

To say that AI is already impacting the industry hardly attracts any attention. All our clients have questions related to AI, and almost all are worried about being left behind. We have been working with Copilot since it was launched, and we find it very useful in our assignments, both for finding and summarizing information and structuring facts. Our customers are very interested in seeing and hearing how we use AI in our work in a practical way.

Sustainability is an area that everyone needs to understand and act on, whether they are subject to regulatory requirements or not. It will soon be a hygiene issue for all companies.

And finally, do you have a hobby or interest that might surprise people?

I think few people will be surprised when I tell them that I like sailing and skiing. I am very committed and go with friends and colleagues on skiing adventures and sailing. I think sailing is a great way to socialize and do things together as a team.

The surprising thing would possibly be my involvement in non-profit organizations linked to skiing and sailing. But I think that applies to many with a consultant profile, we are used to stepping in and helping and steering up.

About Dan Sone

"I am a strong advocate for the idea that everyone must understand the bigger picture in order to do a good job, whether it's about identifying and prioritizing changes or carrying out their daily work. That's why I work with visual models that make it easier to see the whole picture and understand the connections. I have helped companies identify, plan, and implement changes at the intersection of business and IT for over 25 years. I'm starting to see patterns in what makes changes successful. Would you like some good advice?"
